Old Skool is located in Bronaber, halfway between the village of Trawsfynydd and Coed y Brenin visitors centre. Situated just east of The Rhinogydd, a rugged and wild mountain range in southern Snowdonia, the front of the house boasts glorious mountain views and is regularly treated to spectacular sunsets.
Dolgellau to the south (20 minute drive) is your closest town. Here you will find pubs, restaurants and cafes, a Co-Op and Eurospar supermarket as well as some other charming independent shops in the town centre. Just above Dolgellau is the car park for the starting point to hike up Cadair Idris via the Pony Path.
Penrhyndeudraeth (15 minute drive), home to the much loved Portmeirion village along with several cafes, pubs and restaurants (including The Eating Gorilla, a fabulous vegan cafe), and several takeaways.
Slightly further afield is Porthmadog (25 minute drive) with plenty of shops, restaurants, cafes and pubs to choose from as well as several supermarkets for supplies (Tesco, Aldi and Lidl). Here you will also find one of your nearest beaches, Black Rock Sands (30 minutes). An expansive sandy beach backed by sand dunes, affording some spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and Llyn Peninsula.
If hiking Snowdon is on your to do list, we recommend Ranger path, with the car park for the start point a scenic 45 minute drive away. The car park and path on this side of the mountain tend to be less crowded and the path itself is suitable for all abilities.
